I have really been focusing on the amount of sugar in ALL things that I eat, even fruit. I have been eliminating any sweets out of our cabinets, and searching high and low for UNsweetened dried fruits if I want to add them to recipes or my non-fat plain greek yogurt. One of the hardest things to eliminate since changing my lifestyle, was removing 'sugar free' syrups from my coffee! I love coffee...but it was more of a 'sweet' treat with my sugar free syrups added, but I was using chemicals to sweeten my coffee. NOW I am going with NO added syrups, and using a small amount of Stevia in the Raw in my lattes! Today, I used ground cinnamon in my coffee and skim milk...it was surprisingly delicious!

I have followed the Eat Clean program in the past, "fell off the wagon" and am trying to get back on. I felt absolutely wonderful when I was doing it and now I feel like the junk I am eating. I think the first step for me is to get rid of sugar--I NEED to eliminate sugar and am really finding it so hard. I think part of it is the fear of missing out on all those goodies that make me "feel good" but in reality don't.
I think mena19642 has the right mentality, she says "I just joined this site today. I think I'm going to eliminate sugar by going cold turkey. I think I'll just get up in the morning and not use sugar anymore. If I make a mistake, I'll forgive myself and move on. This is Step 1 in my starting over with my life. Cheers!" Cheers to you mena19642 and thanks for your inspiration.

This year I have been embracing a raw lifestyle so I am substituting raw, organic cacao powder for chocolate. I make a divine raw cacao slice when I want something sweet & also give slices of it away to my friends so that I don't overindulge in even such a "good" treat. My friends love it!

I am working on diminishing the tablespoon of sugar that I add to my morning coffee. The first week was tough, but each day becomes easier and easier!
I'm still about a teaspoon...but ONE DAY AT A TIME....will get me there!

I am struggling every day with the sugar issue! I have found that artificial sweeteners have made my situation worse. They have made it so that the more I use, the more I want! I have tried stevia, and agave nectar but where it stands right now, I use so much to satisfy my sweet tooth, that I cannot afford to buy these sweeteners regularly! Kind of a catch 22! I would welcome any suggestions you all have on this issue:)

I quit smoking September 14th 2011 - my one year anniversary is coming up ! Ya hoo !

But....I gained 30 lbs after I quit smoking, adding to the 30 lbs I'd already gained (no excuses). So 60 lbs later I cannot find the real me anymore
I attribute my success to quitting smoking to something I read about the human brain only being capable of holding onto craving signal for a maximum of two minutes.

Ha. Two minutes. I can beat that. And I did. Two minutes at a time. One craving at a time. Eventually your brain gives up when you don't answer the craving with a cigarette - it stops sending the craving signal. Go figure. The cravings got fewer are farther between until I barely had any by week four.

Now let's try that with. . . hmmmmm.... how about sugar ?

TWO MINUTE VICTORIES.

My smoke free anniversary is coming up next week - September 14, 2012. So my journey begins. I hope to have found myself (less 60 lbs) by September 14, 2013.

I eliminated sugar from my life almost 2 years ago, when I joined The Eat-Clean Diet community. Although I do have slips every now and then, I am able to get right back on track with my clean eating, thanks to tips from Tosca, the ECD Team, and the ECD community. I am helping to eliminate sugar this month by posting at the ECD's Kitchen Table daily, with my tips and suggestions that have helped to get me through some rough sugar cravings, sugar detoxes, sugar tweeks, and recipe re-makes through the years. I hope that they will be of help to other ECD Community members, especially our "newbies." It's not easy kicking sugar... but once you do it, there's no looking back! My hope is that everyone that visits this website will learn from it, and use it as a daily resource and tool to start eating clean. Let's all help Tosca STRIKE SUGAR... we can all help The Eat-Clean Diet by banding together and sharing everything we know about striking sugar, and sharing our experiences here for everyone to read. =)

Something I've specifically done is replaced flavored greek yogurt with PLAIN yogurt and adding my own fruit + stevia! I did not think I would like at at ALL, but it is surprisingly delicious!

First off, I hardly ever use sugar to begin with! I normally try to use alternatives-natural ones NOT those chemical alternatives. If I want something sweet, I'll have some fresh berries with a drizzle of honey or agave on them. I think of sugar as Tosca put it on her twitter: "legal coccaine" never have been one to like Sugar. so striking it out is as easy as pie:)

Ok so eliminating sugar following my last six months of being post partum, at home with the kids was pretty easy, lot's of time to grocery shop! A recent move to Tosca's neck of the woods without drive thru's and fast food and planting our first garden also helped. My challenge for the fall now that the kids are back to school is to find new and fun ways to make lunches fiilled with whole foods (nut free) and products with acceptable sugars. Yay for apple season and the ECD's tasty recipes! Keep the wonderful advice coming.

I am only allowing myself honey, maple syrup and fruit. No added sugars and no sugar substitutes. Trying not to overdo any because I really want my taste to change so I don't go back to the cravings and comfort of sugar. It really is (was) my downfall. Am learning so much about how to alter recipes to make them healthier. Thanks for this challenge! It came just when I needed it and was ready to finally make this a life habit!

At least one day a week I eliminate eating any foods containing added sugar.Examples: chocolate, cookies or even the small amount I add to my coffee. It's usually a day after I've had more than usual so for me Monday is good because it follows the week-end when I'm usually more relaxed with my diet on Sat.and Sunday. I also follow a rule of having only small portions of any food or drink containing sugar everyday. This commitment helps keep me feeling my best and at a healthy weight for years now.
