I swam competitively since the age of 6. I also was a 4-year varsity swimmer for the US Naval Academy. Swimming is a fantastic way to develop nice round shoulders, lats, delts and quads. I was a sprinter (50/100 freestyle, 100 breastroke) so I deveoloped fast reactions and learned various plymetric exercises to supplement my training in the pool. One of my favorite exercises is squat-jumps. They were helpful for having quick reaction times of the starting block, but also are a fantastic quad and calf exercise. (added bonus, it gets your heart rate up!)

The exercise is performed by standing with feet shoulder-width apart. Hand on hips, or haging loosely at your sides. To start the exercise, you do a regular squat (keeping knees behind the toes) and jump up vertically as high as you can, thursting your arms in the air above you head, simultaneously. When you land on the ground, bend the knees, absorbing the impact. Return to the standing positition to complete the exercise. Try 3 sets of 10 consecutive squat-jumps. Phew! It's quite a work out!
