At least once every 6 -10 months depending on how much I run. I only use my gym shoes for that purpose and not for casual.

I am picky about my shoes - so when I find a pair that are comfortable, I usually purchase two pair to switch between. Since I am not currently a runner, I find they usually last me about a year or a year and a half before I start looking for new shoes (or earlier if they start breaking down). Since I only use these shoes for exercising - I have older workout shoes for running around town and even older ones for yard work and the like.

I am very anal about my gym shoes. I typically have 2 or 3 pairs at once. One for running in the gym, one for outdoor running, hiking and other activities & another for strength and other cardio. I usually try and replace them every 6 months, or earlier if my feet start to hurt or I have noticed they are breaking down!
