All my meat is frozen- I thaw what I want to use that night.
Veggies- either hearty stuff that takes a while to spoil- broccoli, yams, etc. or it's frozen.
Fruit- cleaned, sliced as necessary and you guessed it... frozen. I keep apples and mangoes around for fresh.
Right now I am eating yogurt as it lasts a while too, but expense wise that may have to stop.
Grains- oatmeal & rice last forever.
I always try to use up everything before buying more- unless there's a good sale, then I stock up and toss it in the freezer.

We use the fruit & vegies long-life storage bags from supermarkets. We keep all of our fruit & veg in them in the fridge. They are an amazing investment. By using them, it means that we never throw out any food anymore, everything keeps until it is used. We also have our own compost bin in the backyard, so anything like banana skins etc is used & returned eventually to our garden soil.

I am not "allowed" to buy fresh produce until I have used up all that I have in that catagorie. For example if I have spinach left I won't buy swiss chard, or if I have yellow zuchini I won't buy any other ones... I try very hard to use up what I have as I hate to waste any of it. I also use those green storage bags and I will often wrap left over veggies in a bit of paper towel before I put them in the bag. I also have a system in my fridge and the stuff I have to eat first is on the top shelf at the front. Often I will put a list on the fridge of the food inside that I need to use up. so as you can see i REALLY hate waste.
