Perhaps it's not kosher to say on an eat clean blog. But, family gatherings only happen a couple of times a year for our family and it's always one meal in the day, like Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving dinner or Easter Brunch. Really I think my body can handle one meal that isn't entirely clean eating. I do focus on veggies, and limit my sugar to one dessert. But I think it is obsesive to stress over one "unclean" meal. I would rather enjoy the fact that all my family is together.

I have to bring my own food in a cooler and be very firm and determined.
* Steel-cut oatmeal, protein powders, flax, pollen, goji berries
* Apples & nut-butter
* Baggies of prunes and walnuts
* Salads
* Baby Carrots & Hummus
* Mad Mexican salsa with hard boiled egg whites
* Tuna with Balsamic vinegar
* Vega Whole Food Optimizer.
* Teas (black, green and herbal), and packets of Stevia for sweetening.

I try and eat a clean meal before I attend a gathering, that way I don't go in hungry and gorge on unhealthy fare. I tend to stick to the veggie platters (hold the dip!) and will munch on a few piece of cheese while drinking just water. Now that I have a whole arsenal of clean recipes from my collection of Clean Eating and Oxygen magazines, I will try to start bringing a food I know I can enjoy guilt-free.

When do you work out?

I am a mother of 3 and own my own business. The only time I have found that I can work out and not feel guilty for doing something for just myself is during my "family time" between 4 and 6pm.

i have joined the YMCA and my youngest (12) comes with me and swims or does her kid fit program while I am upstairs working out. I am a multi tasking person and this is the only way I could justify taking time for myself. I feel good that she is not sitting in front of the TV and that I am back on the cardio circuit again.

I always make sure to have prepped dinner so that we can eat 30min after we get home. Or I put something in the crock pot and have one of my other daughters do the side dishes before we get home.

I have been told that as long as you are moving your heart with thank you no matter what time of day.

Now, If you are looking for times of day for working out because you are training for something big, this is not what you are looking for. That is for the Pro's like Tosca Reno.

Regards,
