I always bring a fruit salad and vegetable platter with hummus which I love to many parties. I eat the meat they serve and very little of the starches like rice or stuffing. I save my calories for something that I have waited all year for like Pumpkin pie or some Christmas Cookies. Those you won't eat all year long. I ate the pumpkin filling and not the crust this year. My mother-in-law thought I was crazy when I brought a huge bowl of vegetables and hummus to the couch while watching tv. That was my late night dessert. This is how I survive the holidays.

I always know that the family dinners I go to have a few healthy options that happen to fit into the Eat-Clean Diet principles, such as roasted vegetables, sweet potatoes without all the extras and plain turkey. I've also been very good at choosing smaller portions because I already know the consequences if I don't - an uncomfortably full stomach. When I get to see my out-of-town relatives only once a year, I definitely don't want to be feeling unwell during the visit!

This will be my first Holiday Season on the Eat Clean Diet. I plan to bring my own clean desserts to my family get together which will help out the host as well as myself. But at the same time I am not going to beat myself up for having a few treats or a glass of wine with my family.

Balance is the key to my world :-) I eat clean normally, and once a week or so I enjoy a treat meal or just an occasional treat. I view the holidays no differently than any other time of year. By not viewing the holidays as my enemy I can enjoy the season, the festivities, the company, the food... and still maintain my weight.

I've offered to take care of a dish at almost every party I go to. That way I not only help the host but I also know there's at least one healthy option!

I make sure that I don't arrive somewhere hungry and I try to keep to my eating schedule as much as possible. I've already had my family Christmas (yes, we do it early!) and I let myself indulge that one day. Now that I've had my indulge day, it's easier to say "no" to the excess of food over the next month. I have a body fat percentage goal that I'm trying to reach, so I try and keep that goal at the front of my mind.

For years I baked tons of Christmas Cookies. I'm not doing it this year and am providing fruit and nuts instead. Before going to a dinner or party I have a protien shake or protien bar so I'm not ravenous when I get there. It worked for Thanksgiving! :-)
