Calling all of those who are new to this or need some help staying on track!
This is my first week and I know that I need support and accountability to help me out.
So I am issuing the EC Start Up Challenge to anyone out there struggling to stay clean or is just starting up. I challenge you to eat clean for this whole week. That means you have to plan, prepare, and stay on track this whole week.
Don't worry about working out. I know that sounds crazy, but baby steps people. Let's just focus on one thing at time. Try to get some walking in if you can.
Eat clean for the week and post what you have eaten each day to stay accountable. BE HONEST. If you messed up, you messed up. Keep going.
I'll start a post every morning this week and then everyone can post under it.
Who's with me?

Well, I am so happy to say that I have been doing better with the night eating challenge. For one thing when I do not eat at night I feel so much better and can totally tell in the morning. I just have to keep on track with it and I will have it beat. Also , I have adjusted my snacks during the day. The scale wasn't moving this week at all or at all lately but I did make adjustments to food, did cut out the night snacks , did work out even if they are modified and did have that tom. So, will weigh in tomorrow and see where that is. .I am hoping for some encouragement and to see even some small movement on the scale. I am going to check out my recipes and map out some meals for the family this week and get my grocery list in order. Last week I made a stir fry with lots of veggies , chicken and shrimp and it was super yummy.
So, for now drinking my tea and getting ready to head out to work. I am going to feel positive about any of the small changes I made this week and build on them.
Ultra mega active vitamins, tea to start off today.
Enjoy your day !!

So we all know that to eat clean and be healthy, we need to stay away from processed unnatural sugar or refined sugar sources. I absolutely agree as I am part of the clean eating clan. Where I have my issues is not with this fact at all but with all of the misconceptions about fruit and sugar or fructose. Personally, I just can't jump on the be careful of fruit band wagon. Here are my reasons for the way I feel about the somewhat controversial subject.
When it comes to health, we know we have to eat a well balanced complete diet. One of the most common pieces of advice is to cut back on our fruit consumption because of the high sugar content. We are also encouraged to eat more vegetables which I whole heartedly agree with. What people do not seem to understand though is that all vegetables also have fructose or sugar in them. I think that because we think fruit sweet, while vegetables are generally not, we really don't register sugar content of vegetables. Some vegetables do have as high of a sugar content as some fruits. Take the sweet potato. It has 7 grams of fructose which is the same as a serving of most berries. The top 5 vegetables with the highest sugar content are beets, sweet potato's, green peas, red peppers, and corn. Even the vegetables with a lower sugar content once added together raises the sugar content.
With fruit, even the highest sugar sources are still only considered moderate as obviously compared to anything with added refined sugar. The reasons why fruits are not so much of an issue in weight gain is because the fiber content and other healthy components actually slow down the absorption of the natural fructose into the body. This is the way nature has designed it. This, unlike processed sugar sources that hit you like a shot. Refined sugar immediately goes to work on the body leaching vital nutrients and minerals from the body. In other words, it sends our bodies into shock almost immediately.
Studies do actually show that people with diets high in fruits and vegetables still lose weight and maintain the weight loss even with the high fructose content. The fact that most of these same people are very often more health conscious in other areas of their lives is also a big determining factor. Perhaps the reason we are led to believe fruit causes weight gain has to do with so many other factors of our lives or even our diets. If we fail to keep everything else clean and portioned, then of course you will put on weight.
There are many Vegans I have come across since I have gone the mostly Vegan route, that first off obviously eat very high amounts of vegetables, beans, and lentils which all have natural fructose in them, but also consume higher amounts of fruits. These high fruit consumers have managed to lose weight and maintain healthy cholesterol levels, lower PH levels, and do not suffer from high blood sugar.
Now the point of my post is not to tell you that I believe you should become a Vegan. What works for me may not work for you. I'm also not telling you to go out and just eat fruit or even go hog wild on it. Yes, I still believe in balance and moderation and all that. I just simply am saying that if you consume some extra fruit, it does not guarantee weight gain. It does not mean high blood sugar. It does not mean that it should be the first thing to cut from your eating plan. I just simply wanted to get out some information that yes, goes kind of against the norm. Everybody needs to make their own determinations about every piece of information that is shared. Have a wonderful clean eating weekend my friends!

So for all those people that have been paying attention to my posts for the past 14 months, you may of noticed that I struggled with my weight for a while before I joined the KT and then for about a year afterwards, staying stuck at a plateau despite my best efforts and then eventually gaining weight and not fitting in my wedding dresss when it arrived a couple of months ago. Well I'm happy to say that in a short time span I have managed not only to lose the weight I had gained in late 2012 but am now down to SMALLER measurements than the ones I initially had when the dress was purchased last summer!!! (I type this with a huge smile on my face because that seemed sooo unattainable to me before).
So that being said, I decided to write this new post because I'm hoping to encourage other KTers that have struggled like me and that feel like the only way they will lose weight and get healthy is by depriving themselves of things they love or by being hungry.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional nutritionist, I am only studying independently in the hopes of becoming a nutrition specialist in a few months so the advice I am giving is based on my personal observations and on material I have been reading in books.
Now although this goes against most diets and meal plans and exercise plans out there, the truth is that every single person's body is different and they will all respond differently to the food you eat, the amount of exercise you do, and your stress levels. I have friends who eat terribly (high fat, high salt, high sugar) and they are super thin. I have friends that eat very small portions and workout but they struggle with their weight. Some of the cleanest eaters or most intense gymrats struggle in their battle of the bulge. Some people lose weight when they are stessed out because they are so anxious they can't eat, some people, like me, gain weight when they are stressed out.
The trick is- you need to experiment with your body and figure out what works for you. Yes, it can be frustrating trust me, and yes you will maybe feel like it's unfair that others are being successful yet putting in less effort than you, but if you truly want to get healthy and feel comfortable in your body, you need to take the time to figure out what works for you!
Maybe you need to eat more.
Maybe you need to add heavier weights in your workout routine.
Maybe you don't eat enough healthy fats.
Maybe you are eating fluffy carbohydrates too often i.e. bread, pancakes, muffins (even if it is whole wheat, these products turn into sugar once metabolized)
Maybe you aren't getting enough sleep (sleep deprivation is linked to weight gain- sleep decreases stress hormone levels in your body)
Maybe you aren't consuming foods that natually detox your body such as parsley, cilantro, chia seeds, seaweed, aloe vera, green veggies
Maybe your portions are too large
Maybe your portions are too small
My advice for all those struggling with their weight loss is to ask yourself these questions, ask yourself more questions about the way you eat and the way you exercise and test the waters, try eating a certain way for 2 weeks and see if you have lost any inches, see if you feel happier and more alert, if your skin is getting nicer... if not, then switch something up.
Good luck ladies!!! :)

So, it appears to be sprout season around here, and I was trying to think of a way to make use of the sprout civilization which has sprung up in my apartment. Then it occurred to me...if you can have WHEATGRASS shots, why not sprout shots? Same dif right? No guff!
So, tomorrow I'm embarking on Nutrition Bomb Shots recipe development (since I'm apparently going to be icebound here in Ontario!). Finally I get to use my shot glasses again! Can't wait!
