  • 3 weeks to go!

Three weeks from today, I'm doing my first half-marathon. Lordy. I honour of the Amanda who will be doing it, I've today begun The Love Fest: Each Day Is a Fresh New Day. What am I talking about?  Well, it's 3 weeks of single days.  Single days where I focus on just that day, and eat well, keep active, and exercise, just for that day.  It's also 3 weeks of days when I do things that make me happy--wherever I am on that single day. So, for today I slept in; made spicy shrimp and squash roti, one of my favourite and coincidentally easiest dishes to make; and watched a number of episodes of Dr. Who. :)  And right now I'm writing this post, and listening to the rain. Tomorrow?  Well, I know I have to work tomorrow, but other than that, since tomorrow doesn't exist yet, and today is my current focus, I have no idea!

  • broke my toe this week but managed to get in 3 workouts anyways!!!!

dumb accident!!!  I dropped a small 2 lbs weight that I use when I go to Zumba on my foot, moved it just in time but it broke my toe when it fell grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I had one workout in at that point, couldn't do anything the day of or the next day but I managed to get 2 workouts - concentrated on my shoulders and back one day and triceps / biceps the next.  I also added some leg stretches because I was feeling a bit stiff, felt great and now I can walk on my toe again although I can't put too much weight on it and not for long but hey... on the mend :)  Have a super weekend everyone - planning on getting another leg stretch in there this weekend and of course, preparing food ahead for the week.  You should try Tosca's Leek and Potato soup - super yummy, it's on this website.  :D Keep it clean !!!!

  • 5 tips for getting fit and making you a priority this school year

Don't push yourself to the back of the list this school year. Make YOU a priority.

  • TOO many muscles!! What ?

Wondering if any of you have encountered this problem at some point, I seem to be making muscles quite quite easily these days - looked in the mirror in the bathroom at work today and I was very surprised, now another lady in the bathroom with me said they were getting  too big!!  Is there such a thing?  I'm not taking any protein shakes or boosts of any kind, it's just Clean Eating (ok so I cheated today cuz I was a bit bummed out unrelated to these muscles) but what do you say.  I'm only 4 foot 10, currently weight 114 but my arms are bulking up much more than I thought they would.  Now my daughter (22 years old and knows pretty much everything about bodies since she's a fashion designer) says that my body is made to carry a lot of muscles.  I'm perplexed - pipe in people I gotta know.  L.

  • Excited for the next year

Hey all!  Hope your clean eating and exercise endeavors are going well.  I cooked tons last night! Greek quinoa salad, Mexican rice salad with fresh tomato and avocado, Mexican beef in the crockpot, protein peanut butter cookies, "pizza" and buffalo chicken bites...I have a couple more things I want to make today, including mini-quinoa corn quiches (saw the recipe on this site and sounds yum!) and broccoli cheddar quiche.  Hubby and I have a run planned this evening and I will be working on some howework off and on today.  Right now I am enjoying a protein cookie and some "fat flush" water for breakfast with a banana.   So, about the title of my post, hubby and I are embarking on an exciting and scary journey!  We are training to run the 2014 Prince Edward Island Marathon next year!  My husband is ex-military and has competed in several marathons in the past (more than 8 years ago I think), so running is coming back to him pretty quickly.  I am not a natural runner.  I gravitate more towards lifting and sprints, but I am looking forward to the challenge.  This first week I ended up logging a total of 14 miles (a combination of walking/jogging for the most part) and I am please.  I invested in some Brooks running shoes as well as some compression socks and the difference is amazing!  Almost no muscle soreness. I hope you all are setting goals and doing all you can to meet them! - Carly

  • The 5th Annual Eat-Clean Diet Makeover Challenge Comes To An End!

    How is everyone feeling?

  • I'm back and needing motivation....

I can hardly believe the road ahead of me. It;s rather overwhelming. I have been a die hard clean eater for many years, however early this year I wavered away from clean eating. Before I knew it I was addicted to carbs and anything packed full of sugar. In May I underwent a double mastectomy and began the reconstruction. My body was tired, exercise was restricted and bad food was my friend. Since May I have gone up three dress sizes, I refuse to weigh myself as I know those number will likely cause even more emotional eating. I want my body to feel healthy and strong again. I am starting a healthy cleans today to get the ugly sugars out of my body and beginning the eat clean lifestyle again. I am also returning to the gym, with great reservation as I am feeling rather intimidated by this larger unfit body I'm currently in.  I am motivated by the fact that my body and mind have gotten me through so much this year, its time to start to treat it like the amazing vessel it is. I will be relying greatly on this site in hopes to draw much needed strength and motivation. I am excited to be back, Brandy
