Details

Summer is for grilling! Try Connie’s Turkey Guacamole Burgers tonight on the barbeque. This tasty meal can be cooked, prepared and eaten in under an hour!

Ingredients

Guacamole Spread

• 2 avocados
• 1 tsp / 5 ml garlic powder
• ½ tsp / 2.5 ml freshly ground black pepper
• 2 jalapenos, finely chopped
• ½ white onion, finely chopped
• 1 cup / 240 ml cilantro, finely chopped
• Juice of one lime

Burgers

• 2 lb / 900 g lean ground turkey
• 4 tsp / 20 ml ground cinnamon
• 1 tsp / 5 ml garlic powder
• 1 tsp / 5 ml freshly ground black pepper
• 6 Ezekiel or whole-grain buns

Preparation

Guacamole Spread

  1. Cut avocados in half. Remove the pits and scoop flesh into a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Add garlic powder, black pepper, jalapenos, white onions, cilantro and lime juice to the bowl.
  3. Mix all ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.

Burgers

  1. Preheat your barbeque to medium-high heat.
  2. Add turkey, cinnamon, garlic powder and black pepper to a large bowl.
  3. Mix the turkey and spices with clean bare hands.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 parts and shape into flat patties.
  5. Lightly coat the hot grill with oil and add the patties.
  6. Grill patties for 7 to 9 minutes on each side or until cooked through.
  7. Serve burgers on a lightly toasted bun with 1 Tbsp of Guacamole Spread and enjoy!

Tosca's Tip

Ensure your grill has been scraped clean and is quite hot before you place the burgers on it. This prevents the meat from sticking and falling apart.

Ok. I made these last night! They were easy peasy to make and the WHOLE family loved them! Better yet there was enough left over for everyone to pack a lunch today!

A must try... I make something similar but the cinnamon is different touch. Thanks!

I've wanted a hamburger for awhile now. This looks like a great alternative.

I made these a few weeks ago. They are great, except my man found that there was too much cilantro in the guac. Other than that we are having them again tonite, with a different guacamole.

Love these! I added a pinch of sea salt and used fresh garlic (instead of powder) in the guac. I also made it pretty spicy! Be sure to mix the turkey well to distribute the spices. Loved the crunch of the toasted whole wheat bun.

Can we get a new featured recipe each week? This one has been up for a few weeks now. Looks good, but would love a change. Thanks!

My husband made these exactly according to the recipe. They were horrible. The cinnamon in the turkey meat was terrible. We ended up throwing them away. Also the guacamole was also terrible. Way to much cilantro. I know hat turkey meat needs some help because it is so lean. I saute onion and garlic and then add it to the turkey. There are also a lot better recipes for guacamole that adheres to the clean eating.

My husband made the burgers & I made the guacamole spread. He will add olive oil to the burgers next time and I will add fresh garlic to the guacamole. We really enjoyed them (served on whole grain wheat buns) and will definitely make again.

Guacamole can be made with or without Cilantro. (Cilantro is one of those things - you either love it or hate it.) Also, definitely add fresh chopped garlic instead powder. I always add chopped, seeded tomatoes also. (1/4 cup) I do add a touch of salt because it just needs it.

I really liked it although it needed a touch of some salt and both my husband and I could have done without the cinnamon in it.

Really enjoyed this recipe - the cinnamon added such a surprising taste with the guac - definitely will make this one again!
