mmm, I thought this diet was based on low carbs and high protein. This recipie has 27.9g carbs and only 6.7 protein. I am confused.

It does seem a bit high in carbs. Maybe eat less oatmeal ( I eat 1/2 cup cooked) and pair it with egg whites to balance it out?
From: buffgirl about 3 years ago
Ahm, you need to not think of this in carb or whatever terms. This "diet" is really not a diet, its a way of life and a lifestyle choice. Now in regards to the carb amount. It is oatmeal and it is dry weight only 1/2 cup, which is perfectly acceptable to eat for an active gal in the morning. I eat this plus eggs every morning and then I kick it hard at the gym, so it suits me and my schedule. If you are rather sedentary, then you may feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount, start by eating less. It is a complete meal for me with a couple off eggs and eggwhites.

I only have a 1/4 cup uncooked oats.

I've tried the "low carb" thing-- and it wasn't pretty. That's part of what sent me backsliding into eating all of those processed icky "schlumpy-snacks"-- I had no energy to get through my work day, let alone the intense workouts I was putting myself through... This oatmeal looks awesome! Can't wait to try it :)

Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed this recipe both mornings this week-end. A nice change up for my a.m. oats! Kept me going strong until snack time:)

I've had a similar recipe but it's baked instead. Just layer raw cut up apples & cinnamon on the bottom of a pan then pour the prepared oatmeal on top. Bake for about 1/2 hr at 350. The oatmeal on top gets a little crispy (just like applecrisp). It's like having desert for breakfast. Yummy!

Eating clean is exactly that - eating clean, no processed foods. Your foods should be natural, therefore, oatmeal is awesome. Also, the carbs might be 27.9, but if you deduct the fiber you are getting 17.9 carbs for the half cup serving. No so shabby. Plus eating it for breakfast will give you the carb load that you need. I love oatmeal with blueberries, but this sounds fantastic.

I make something similar for my kids. I use steel cut oats and while they are cooking I'll grate the apple into the pot. Even though they don't mind nuts (chopped small) I'll usually put them (walnuts or almonds) through the food processor to be guaranteed a "no complaining" morning! They also love flax and wheat germ. I have educated them as much as possible about the importance of eating right and at age 3 & 5, my girls know more than some adults I know! :-)

It's a great recipe and would be considered a portion of a breakfast. Adding some protein in the form of some egg whites or something similar would keep you full longer and help with fat burning,

Oatmeal, is the best when your training for a marathon or triathlon! The Carbs in the morning are exactly what you need when you are training hard, A Low carb diet needs to be balanced with good carbohydrates. This will make training more fun than exhausting.....:) I love this recipe, I like to roast my chopped walnuts before putting them on top! Yummy! :d

Where is the 8.3 grams of fat coming from? I am confused a little. Recipe sounds great though! Thanks!!!!

This sounds great, i have put in nuts and cinnamon but cooking and adding the apples sound easy. Oatmeal is great to have eating clean means that...Carbs should be part of your diet just not a lot of carbs..Carb intake varies for each person depends on how many calories you need to eat. You want an intake of everything good, that includes good fat, carbs, protein. As my trainer says think *natural* carbs are natural.

This recipe sounds terrific!! I can't wait to try it. I eat 1 c. prepared (1/2 c. uncooked) oatmeal and 2 eggs every morning. It gives me the energy I need to make it to my next meal.

Eating Clean is NOT a program that:
•expects you to starve yourself
•makes you count anything – not calories, not points, not carbohydrate grams, not fat grams
•requires you to buy prepackaged, pre-portioned food
•requires you to take pills or potions.

I love oatmeal!!!! This is good but I will cut the cinnamon in half next time!Thank you!
From: rejohn07 about 2 years ago
That is why you just need to add egg whites to either the oatmeal or on the side. Protein powder is great, too! Just because this is a recipe for breakfast, doesn't mean that it is the whole breakfast necessarily. When you are eating clean and keeping active, our bodies usually need more protein.

I figure Tosca has it figured out and she is telling me 1/2 cup uncooked followed by eggs that's what I'll do. Somewhere in her book I read also about it balancing blood sugar and with the fiber important for your energy at the start of the day.

I would definitely use steel cut oats and have even topped this off with yogurt, nuts, and berries. The steel cut oats take so long to be digested that I feel full all morning. The yogurt, nuts and berries add extra nutrition and flavor.
