"I'm here to tell you a normal average gal can go against genetics and change her metabolism to get results!"

Age: 42 Height: 5’4 Heaviest Weight: 164 lb Current Weight: 115 lb

My Journey:

At the urging of my doctor, I made a decision to get in better shape. I not only hired a personal trainer, but decided to change my diet as well. I come from a family with a history of high cholesterol and did not want to take drugs for the rest of my life. I wanted to change my habits to get healthier.

My trainer introduced me to Tosca Reno’s Eat-Clean Diet® book. As a result I lost 45 lbs! And that was just the start – I took part in my first ever Figure Contest in June 2008.

When I began my journey, I weighed 164 lbs and had 32% body fat. On the day of my contest I weighed in at 112 lbs with 9% body fat. Granted, that was the day of the contest, but man, what a difference Eating Clean can make! I now weigh a constant 115 lbs and stand at about 15% body fat.

It was exciting to see my body changing! It’s hard work and at times very inconvenient but the compliments and the feeling I have all the time are NOT inconvenient!

I'm here to tell you a normal average gal can go against genetics and change her metabolism to get results!

Thank you,
Julie Van Acker

Julie Van Acker, I have printed up your before and after photos as encouragement for me. I would sure like to make the same transformation for myself. If you have the time I sure would like to ask you some questions.

Julie, Wow! You look incredible! I am also interested in knowing more details about your transformation. As a 45 year old female, I find inspiration in the stories of women in their forties making such dramatic, positive changes. I'd love to know more specifics about your weight training routine, aerobic activity and calorie consumption. I don't have a trainer and I'm not sure I could get these results without one. You are a true success story! Thank you Julie & Tosca!

hi! i'm dong the same thing reading all the posts of women in their 40s. I just started today after doing weight watchers for awhile. i do it every year from jan to may. then gain the weight back. 15-20lbs. I love working out but don't do it as often as needed as a busy mom and have a full time job. i work in a nursery so get lots of upper body workouts carrying flower baskets around. good luck every one!!

me too! I just joined today and am reading stories of women in their 40's, looking for inspiration. you look fantastic! i am 42 and want to get back in shape. i've let myself go and lose and gain the same 10-15 lbs over and over. i would love to hear more of your journey as well. after having 4 kids, i got into great shape, but now i'm floundering.

It's me again, I see there is still no reply, post or profile from Julie Van Acker. I would really like to look at what her disciplines were. If I felt like I could reach that goal and had it spelled out for me, I would jump at it. There is so much science to the building muscle, losing fat, training, etc. And there are no P.T. here in Orange Park, Florida that I could go to.

Congratulations on your achievements! I'm a 46 year old wife, mom and teacher and I want to get back into shape! I'm just beginning to "Eat Clean" and would love to hear any tips you can give just starting out!

I am also in my early forties, 42 to be exact. Within the last 6months to a year the wieght has been crawling on. From my behind still moving once I reach the top of the stairs to what seems like an ever growing mid section. I have three children. I reallly would like to be in much better shape by my 43rd b-day. The success stories of the 40 year old's are what I need to keep motivation high!

I am about to turn 42, and I am another who combs this site and others for inspirational examples of women over 40 who have made this kind of transformation. Julie, you look incredible. I'm a longtime subscriber to Oxygen and have most of the ECD books, but had not really committed for the long haul until now. I'm so glad Tosca posted your story! Keep up the great work; you are inspiring.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I will turn 44 this summer and struggling to lose the extra weight. This really helps motivate me! It's never too late! Congratulations!

Hello everyone it's me Julie! Thanks for such kind words!!! It's great to have a cheering section of us women in our 40's :) I will be 44 by the end of the year and still doing my daily workouts and eating clean. Each of you can have the same success if you truely want it. Don't do it for anyone else but yourself......your mind and heat have to be in it or you won't make good decisions in crunch time. The 40's are awesome.......my 25 year HS reunion is this year....i have my next goal - do you???

Thanks again, Julie and Tosca! I echo the comments of all of the other women in this post. It is inspiring beyond words to see women in their 40's succeeding at being healthy. We women tend to just sit around and commiserate about our weight gain with other women just like us when we should be encouraging each other to CHANGE what we don't like! Let's DO it!

thanks for a great story julie i am almost 46 and its nice to c someone my age able to do it.I cant afford a personal trainer but I think I will do ok,have a groovy kinda day.

Hey Julie, have been thinking about you and wondering what you have been doing lately. I am trying to get refocused on my goals. I have lost 45 lbs. but still have 5-10 more lbs of fat to go. I think I am at 20% body fat and would love to maintain a 16 % if that is possible. I have been really discouraged about my diet, still training like a man woman though.
