My Journey:
Dear Tosca,
I have been about 160-165 pounds and a size 10-12 my whole adult life – it seemed to be a sticking point. I had resigned myself to being “fat and fit.” After all, I was a marathon runner, cycled and weight trained regularly, and routinely counted calories with no success. Calorie counting made me feel awful, and hurt my passion – running – and it was easy to look past the extra weight. Everyone I knew gave me excuses for staying heavy.
In August of 2008, I had my daughter. I ran throughout the pregnancy, but still gained 40 pounds. I started to lose the weight through counting calories and running. I even ran my first postpartum marathon three months after my c-section, but the last bit of weight was still hanging on by Christmas, keeping me at around 170 and keeping my pre-partum jeans tight. At Christmas time, I picked up The Eat-Clean Diet. I had never picked up a diet book before, but I had to face facts. What I had always learned and stubbornly adhered to, calorie counting, wasn't working for me, even with my very high level of activity... I needed something different – and I found it with The Eat-Clean Diet!
I started Eating Clean in the New Year and, adhering strictly, the weight flew off. What's more, it felt effortless! Not only did my runs not suffer, but they improved! I was fueled for great athletic performance. In seven months, I went from a size 12 to a size 2 or 4, depending on the brand. Even better, my running times improved. I dropped an hour and a half off my marathon best and qualified to run the Boston marathon. I dropped 45 minutes off my half-marathon personal record, 14 minutes off my 10K record and six minutes off my 5K record in a year's time.
Thank you so much Tosca; your book changed my life!
