My Journey:
Dear Tosca,
In May 2006 I convinced my husband Darin to join the YMCA in Welland, ON. He needed to lose 30 pounds and change his eating habits. Darin suffered from lower back pain for many years due to the excessive weight around his stomach and although he was able to lose the weight many times, he always put it back on.
At that time, he weighed 203 pounds and he wore a very tight 36” waist pant though he really needed a size 38”. He loved to eat pizza, chicken wings and snacks at night, and only joined the YMCA to make me happy. After three weeks he started to notice a slight change in his bulging stomach, which was his motivation to keep him going. After three months at the YMCA, with some slight adjustments in cooking, he lost 15 pounds. But that wasn’t enough for him.
In 2007 I was introduced to
The Eat-Clean Diet® Cookbook by Oxygen magazine. I have been cooking with it religiously ever since. Darin shed another 15 pounds by eating very clean and focusing on building muscle. He now weighs 180 pounds, has 9.5% body fat and wears a size 29” pant!
Sugar, sodium and processed foods were completely omitted from his diet and were replaced with a balance of lean proteins, complex carbs and healthy fats. He is very disciplined and determined to stay on track with his diet and workout routine. He has more energy, a better self-image and doesn’t have back pain any more. He would like to compete in a bodybuilding competition next year when he turns 50. He never thought he could accomplish what he has in the past three years because he just didn’t care how he looked or the state of his health. Men of all ages are constantly asking him how he does it and his answer is always the same: “It’s all about The Eat-Clean Diet.”
Now we coordinate our workouts around our social life rather than the other way around. If we’re out for the day we pack healthy snacks and water to go so we don’t rely on fast food. When we are on vacation we make sure there is a gym, we choose healthy restaurants over the buffet and we don’t drink. Straying too far from our routine affects our bodies in negative ways. We’ve found that indulging is not worth the short-lived pleasure. Our kids (aged 21 and 23) have also taken on The Eat-Clean Diet Lifestyle. I am happy knowing they are eating well and are healthier at such young ages.
We are big promoters of the
Eat-Clean Diet everywhere we go. People always compliment us on our fitness level and how good we both look considering our ages (Darin is 49 and I am 46). It has made a hugely positive difference in our life and I hope I can help others make a change by recommending the Eat-Clean Diet books, not just for women & men but for entire families.
Thank you,
Laurie Masciovecchio
