Sandi says The Eat-Clean Diet® helped her contol her weight while she went through menopause!

Dear Tosca,

Unfortunately, I didn't realize or even think about taking pictures before I started The Eat-Clean Diet®. But I will tell you anyway because I'm thrilled with what I see.

I started this diet because my body was falling apart and I was feeling terrible about myself. When I turned 50 a of couple years ago, I was in a downward spiral. I was going through menopause, putting on weight and my body was doing something I had no control over. I've always been a small person but when I gained 10 pounds in the year before I turned 50 and another 10 after, I knew I had to put a stop to it. I was ballooning out of my clothes, nothing fit. I told myself I wouldn't buy any new clothes for a bigger size. I've been a runner over the last 20 years but that wasn't helping any more. I added strength training but that didn't seem to help much either. So on January 1st, 2008 I decided it was time to get the Eat-Clean Diet book and change my eating program. I was getting Oxygen magazine and always read about this diet. I knew one day I would get serious about my weight and when I did I knew this was the way I wanted to eat.

I recently bought the Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook and am excited to make new dishes.

By the beginning of summer 2008 I had lost 15 pounds and just over 30 inches. My clothes were falling off. I was actually having trouble finding clothes to fit. I sure didn’t mind because it felt great. Within two months of starting I had changed what my body used to look like. I haven't had any urges to eat sweets or any simple carbs. I feel trim and fit. I still have more to lose for my goal. I've always felt comfortable at 115-120. Before I started, I weighed 135 lbs. I'm now down to 120 pounds and less 30 inches. And even though the pounds aren't a lot the inches make up the difference. I've also included cardio and strength training every day for 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours.

I see this as a life change. Once I achieve my goal I may enjoy a little something sweet but that will only be on occasion. I will monitor my weight from here on out.

Thank you again for the support. I find myself rereading the books. It keeps me motivated.

Sandi Wright

Sandi thanks for your post. I have been looking for stories about people over 50. I am 56 and am amazed how much of a "stomach" I have put on during this menopause roller coster. I am gross. I started back at the YMCA this morning and on this eating plan a week ago so hopefully in 6 months I will see a change. I have 70-80 lbs to lose. When I went to the Y this morning they have a full mirror and I died when I saw myself. I have never looked like this before. We lost our home in a fire last summer and are getting ready to build back and we are living in shop building we turned into an apartment and I have not purchased a full size mirror for here. Boy was I sick when I saw myself. Guess all I have is time to improve my body an this is my plan. Thanks for your post - it is inspirating. Karen

Great story Sandi, very inspirational. It just goes to show it doesn't matter what age you are when you begin to eat clean, it works!!

Thank you Sandi for sharing your story. I am pre menopausal and am noticing things are starting to change and I have NO control over it. I CAN control what I eat and it's time to get serious before by body gets out of hand! Thank you.

Sandi that is awesome for you. I will be 50 in 2mos and I feel a change in my body that drives me crazy. I never had to worry about my stomach or my waist, it was usually my thighs that were my problem areas, however since being in menopause I notice a "thick" middle with love handles...there is nothing to love about love handles. I have been working out 6days a week since February and eating clean for about 4wks and it is sooo difficult getting rid of this weight for me...I find my self getting very frustrated! I think I lost 4-5 ponds since Feb and now the scale does not budge. Please help with any suggestions. Thank You

Thank you Sandi for sharing and congradulation! Jenny 7560, I will be 50 in Aug. I am having the same exact issues! just started the plan today and very excited and hopeful this will work for me. I was diagnosised with hypothyriodism in Feb. I always feel like I am retaining water. Yuck! I do yoga pilates three days a week and getting ready to hire a personal trainer for the weight training. I love love this website and I just bought all the books!! Thanks Tosca!!

Hi follks. I have been in and out of this site for two years but now I am really having problems and would love to connect with anyone who has had success with controling the nasty weight gain that comes with menopause. Im 56 years old and lost about 30 lbs 5 years ago. (thank you Tosca!) I have been eating clean and using my treadmill religiously but the weight has continued to creep up. I had to finally cave in to the insanity of menopause start taking HRT. Premarin. Nasty nasty stuff for me and I am sure that I have gained back at least 20 lbs in the past two months. I have watched my mid section expand to the point where I look more pregnant now than I did 27 years ago. I wont even go near a scale and self esteem has taking a huge beating. Now throw a couple of mood swings into the pot with clothes that cant be worn anymore and it has become a recipe for disaster! I have dumped the premarin and am taking a break before starting bio identical hormones so while off of this junk, Im increasing my workouts and eating "cleaner" trying to dump some of the pounds before I start the new hrt regime. I would love to hear from anyone who has had success with diet, working out and HRT. CAN IT BE DONE?? I really need to hear something positive. Motivation is nearly gone and life kinda sucks right now! lol Thanks for listening! (feel better already!)
